American arrested in St. Petersburg for participation in unauthorized protest

ST. PETERSBURG. March 8 (Interfax) - The Moskovsky District Court of St. Petersburg has subjected a U.S. citizen to administrative liability for participation in an unauthorized protest, the unified press service for the city's courts said on Monday.

Alexander Thomas Chadwell received seven days of arrest under Part 1 of Article 20.2.2 of the Russian Code of Administrative Violations (organization of mass simultaneously stay and (or) movement of citizens in public places leading to violations of public order).

St. Petersburg courts are now considering materials against participants in an unauthorized protest held in St. Petersburg on March 6. According to the Russian Interior Ministry, some 1,500 citizens took part in the event, 750 of them were detained.
