Republic publication website blocked in Russia - Roskomnadzor

MOSCOW. March 6 (Interfax) - The website of the Republic publication (added to the foreign-agent media register by the Russian Justice Ministry) has been blocked in Russia, the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) said.

According to the Roskomnadzor's universal service for verifying the blocking of webpages and websites, access to the Republic.ru website is restricted in Russia based on a request from the Prosecutor General's Office dated February 24.

Republic Editor-in-Chief Dmitry Kolezev, who left Russia a few days ago, confirmed this information on his Telegram channel.

Republic is a Russian online publication that is part of the same media holding as the TV Rain channel (added to the foreign-agent media register by the Russian Justice Ministry); previously, the Bolshoi Gorod magazine was part of the same holding. The online publication started operating in 2009, and the website was called Slon until November 2016. The TV Rain channel temporarily suspended its operation on March 3.

As previously reported, the website of the Mediazona online publication (added to the foreign-agent media register by the Russian Justice Ministry) was blocked in Russia. The websites of a number of regional, federal and foreign publications were also blocked. All the blockings were associated with the coverage of events in Ukraine.
