Over 2,400 protesters detained at unauthorized rallies in Moscow, St. Petersburg - Interior Ministry

MOSCOW. March 6 (Interfax) - Law enforcement officers have detained 1,700 protesters at unauthorized rallies in Moscow and more than 700 in St. Petersburg, Russian Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk said.

"About 2,500 people took part in an unauthorized rally in Moscow, 1,700 were detained. About 1,500 people attended a rally in the city of St. Petersburg, 750 of them were detained. In other regions, a total of 1,200 people took part in unauthorized events, 1,061 were detained," Volk told reporters on Sunday.

The detainees were taken to the territorial police departments for investigation and they are about to be brought to justice, Volk said.
