Background radiation near Chernobyl, Zaporizhzhya NPPs still normal - authorities

KYIV. March 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The radiation levels near the Chernobyl and Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plants (NPPs) remain in the normal range, Ukraine's State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate stated on Saturday.

According to information obtained via accessible channels of communication with the staff, the safety parameters at Chernobyl NPP are normal, the statement said.

Background radiation in Zaporizhzhya region also remains normal, the regulator said, citing the head of the regional state administration, Oleksandr Starukh.

"The state enterprise Zaporizhzhya Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention, of the Ukrainian Health Ministry, hereby informs that background radiation in Zaporizhzhya region remains unchanged and poses no risk to life and health," a statement on Telegram said.
