Baltic Fleet marines practice helicopter airdrops in Kaliningrad region

MOSCOW. March 4 (Interfax) - Air assault troops from a naval infantry formation of the Baltic Fleet have completed practice jumps with parachutes onto unprepared sites, the Fleet said on Friday.

"The marines landed with weapons and additional equipment from altitudes of 900 and 1,200 meters in groups of up to 20 personnel simultaneously. Each serviceman was to land on an unequipped site in an assigned area," the statement said.

The jumps were carried out from Mil Mi-8 helicopter from the fleet's mixed helicopter regiment.

"In total, the marines performed around 200 parachute jumps," the statement said.

The drill took place in the Kaliningrad region, it added.
