Russians captured in Ukraine subject to brutal treatment - Russian ombudsman

ROSTOV-ON-DON. March 4 (Interfax) - Russian commissioner for human rights Tatyana Moskalkova has said there is information that Russians captured in Ukraine are being tortured.

Moskalkova announced her readiness to facilitate an exchange of captives in any format.

"We have information that people are being subject to torture and degrading brutal treatment. I call on the international community and all ombudsmen to do everything that our institution of the human rights commissioner can do to prevent violations of international norms and the violations of the principles of the observance of the rights of people in captivity. I hope that politicians will agree on an exchange, and we stand ready to take part in this process," Moskalkova told reporters in Rostov-on-Don on Friday.
