ICRC president vows to do everything possible to help evacuate Ukrainians - Ukrainian PM

KYIV. March 4 (Interfax) - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will do everything possible to help evacuate Ukrainians, as ICRC President Peter Maurer told Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

"Just finished talking to [Peter Maurer]. The Red Cross will do everything possible to help evacuate Ukrainians, deliver food and medicine to places where fighting continues," Shmyhal wrote on Twitter.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on March 2 that Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin had a telephone call with Maurer.

"The parties discussed aspects of interaction between the Russian Defense Ministry and the ICRC, including on the Ukrainian track," it said, without reporting other details.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a telephone call with Maurer on March 1.

"In exchanging opinions on the situation in Ukraine, the parties attached special significance to the resolution of humanitarian problems," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The parties discussed continued cooperation between Russia and the ICRC, reaffirming their determination to develop a constructive and substantive dialogue on a broad range of crisis response aspects," it said.
