Ukrainian servicemen opened fire on Bangladeshi vessel, crewmember dead - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has voiced outrage after the Bangladeshi vessel Banglar Samriddhi at the Ukrainian Port of Olvia came under fire by Ukrainian servicemen.

"The Bangladeshi dry cargo vessel Banglar Samriddhi came under fire at the Ukrainian Port of Olvia at nighttime on March 2. According to the information provided by the Bangladeshi prime minister's principal secretary Ahmad Kaikaus, Ukrainian servicemen opened fire on the vessel," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

"A fire broke out on board the vessel after it was hit by a projectile. The fire was extinguished," it said.

"One of the 29 crewmembers aboard the vessel died. The others were not hurt," the ministry said.

"We express our outrage at the actions of Ukrainian servicemen, who, acting contrary to international rules, have not allowed the Bangladeshi dry cargo vessel to sail out to sea for several days and have mined the port's waters, using foreign civilian sailors as human shields, as a matter of fact," the Foreign Ministry said.
