Roskomnadzor demands Google lift restrictions imposed on YouTube channel of CSKA Moscow

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax) - The Russian telecommunications watchdog Roskomnadzor has said it has sent a letter to the top management of Google LLC, demanding that all the earlier imposed restrictions in relation to the YouTube channel of Russia's Professional Football Club CSKA (broadly known as CSKA Moscow) be lifted and the reasons for their application be explained.

"The video-hosting YouTube portal owned by the U.S.-based company Google LLC has become an instrument of info war against the Russian Federation on the part of Western society. This is not the first time that Russian channels on YouTube have been restricted and discriminated against. The actions taken by the video hosting website's administration violate the key principles of free distribution of, and free access to, information," Roskomnadzor said in a statement on Thursday.

CSKA Moscow was earlier subjected to sanctions imposed over the Ukraine situation, as the Russian state corporation VEB, which has been blacklisted by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, owns the club.
