Roskomnadzor demands Google remove Ekho Moskvy app - radio station

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax) - The Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) has demanded that Google block the Ekho Moskvy application in Google Play, the radio station said on Thursday.

"Roskomnadzor has demanded that Google remove the Ekho Moskvy application. The company said that Roskomnadzor explained the demand as a breach of the Russian Federal Law on Information, Information Technologies and the Protection of Information," Ekho Moskvy said.

The television channel Dozhd (which is on the Russian Justice Ministry's list of designated foreign-agent media outlets) said it, too, was notified by Google about Roskomnadzor seeking the removal of its app from Google Play.

Yesterday Ekho Moskvy said its official group on the VK social media website had been blocked at the behest of the Prosecutor General's Office.
