Moscow scraps QR codes - mayor

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax) - Moscow is scrapping QR codes certifying vaccination for Covid-19 or earlier infection and is lifting related restrictions on sport, culture and entertainment as the Covid-19 situation in the city improves, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said.

"I signed an order today to stop using QR codes in Moscow starting on Thursday, March 3, 2022," Sobyanin said in his blog.

There will be no more restrictions on visiting public catering establishments, theaters, museums, concerts, and entertainment, educational and sport events, he said.

The city is lifting restrictions on the simultaneous attendance by more than 500 people of concerts and entertainment and sport events.

The Covid-19 morbidity and related hospitalizations are on decline in Moscow, and the improving epidemiological situation allows lifting the restrictions, Sobyanin said.

QR codes have been required for attending events and visiting certain establishments in Moscow since fall 2021.

The city saw a new surge in Covid-19 cases after the New Year holidays, as the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus began to spread.
