Ukraine to have no nuclear weapons, NATO bases - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. March 2 (Interfax) - The Russian military operating in Ukraine is eliminating the threat to Russia's security, there will be no nuclear weapons nor NATO bases there, the Russian Defense Ministry's spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.

"The Russian troops, the Russian army are on an honorable mission: to eliminate the real threat to Russia which until recently was emanating from Ukraine, from where, against the will of the Ukrainian people, NATO bases, nuclear weapons and delivery vehicles were to appear in the near future. Our Motherland will be protected," Konashenkov told a briefing on Wednesday.
