Belarusian Foreign Ministry reiterates Minsk not involved in Ukraine conflict
MINSK. March 2 (Interfax) - Belarus is not involved in the conflict in Ukraine, Belarusian Foreign Ministry press secretary Anatoly Glaz said.
"We once again highlight what the Belarusian side has stated repeatedly: our country has not taken part, is not taking part, and does not plan to take part in the military actions in Ukraine," the press service quoted Glaz as saying.
"While Belarus is making consistent efforts toward normalizing the situation in Ukraine, including through comprehensive facilitation of Russian-Ukrainian peace negotiations, Washington is continuing to foment the situation in the region and circulate fakes to justify new sanction measures on the Republic of Belarus," he said.
"America's decision to suspend the work of the U.S. embassy in Minsk fits the logic of the unwarranted escalation now: while declarations have been made on the need for a de-escalation and keeping channels for dialogue open, these channels are in fact being closed to further complicate any communication, including on practical matters, such as security in the region," Glaz said.
Equitable dialogue remains the only key to easing the tensions, Glaz said, warning that none of the sanction attacks would remain unanswered.
