Russian Sports Ministry, Russian federations preparing claims to sports arbitration court to appeal sanctions imposed on Russian sports

MOSCOW. March 2 (Interfax) -The Russian Sports Ministry is working on claims to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over the decisions made by the international sports federations, which have cancelled more than 30 competitions involving Russians, Russian State Secretary and Deputy Sports Minister Andrei Fyodorov told a meeting of the Federation Council on Wednesday.

"A number of demonstrative political decisions were made by international sports federations over the past few days. We are working with the Russian Olympic Committee and the key sports federations on a plan to appeal the illegal decisions affecting our athletes and teams," Fyodorov said.

Thirty-two sports competitions involving Russians have been cancelled "for far-fetched reasons," he said.

"All contracts signed by our and international federations are being studied to determine the prospects of recovering moneys paid as donations and moral damages," the deputy minister said.
