British ambassador invited to Kazakh Foreign Ministry after British MP calls for imposing sanctions on Kazakhstan
NUR-SULTAN. March 2 (Interfax) - British Ambassador to Kazakhstan Kathy Leach was invited to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry after British parliament member Margaret Hodge said sanctions must be imposed on Kazakhstan, Kazakh First Deputy Foreign Minister Shakhrat Nuryshev said.
"The British ambassador to Kazakhstan has been invited to the Foreign Ministry and asked to explain the reason for such a statement. We are awaiting her comment," Nuryshev told reporters on Wednesday in response to a request for comment on Hodge's remark.
According to the media, Hodge said on March 1 that restrictions must be imposed not just on Moscow but also on Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, which, in her opinion, backed up Russian President Vladimir Putin.
