Pacific Fleet ships hit mock enemy positions during drill in Kamchatka

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. March 2 (Interfax) - A group of Russian Pacific Fleet ships has fired artillery at coastal targets during a scheduled exercise in the Avacha Gulf in Kamchatka, the fleet press service said on Wednesday.

"According to the drill scenario, the Pacific Fleet unit detected camouflaged artillery and mortar positions of a mock enemy on a beach where an amphibious landing was planned to take place," the press service said.

The unit of over 20 ships departed from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on Tuesday after the weather improved and the ships replenished reserves. The ships continued to train at maritime ranges as planned.
