Kazakhstan pursuing policy of building nuclear-weapon-free world - FM

NUR-SULTAN. March 2 (Interfax) - Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi has reaffirmed Kazakhstan's unwavering commitment to achieving a nuclear-weapon-free world.

"Kazakhstan firmly adheres to the position of a universal ban on nuclear tests and the creation of nuclear-free zones in all regions of the world," Tleuberdi said in a speech at a session of the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva.

He is quoted in a statement of the press service for the Kazakh Foreign Ministry released on Wednesday.

Tleuberdi emphasized that the UN General Assembly has endorsed the Universal Declaration on the Achievement of a Nuclear-Weapon-Free World in December 2021 by a record number of votes.

Kazakhstan is actively involved in the implementation of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which does not replace but complements the current Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, of which all five permanent members of the UN Security Council are parties, the foreign minister said.
