The exercise in Belarus, to which Russia transferred a number of units and detachments of the Eastern Military District, was to last until February 20. Moscow and Minsk said that the Russian military would return to their permanent bases following the exercise.

However, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin later said that the presidents of Belarus and Russia decided to continue a preparedness check the Union State's rapid response forces due to the increase in military activity near the Union State's external borders and the aggravation of the situation in Donbas.
