Meta must lift restrictions on RT and Sputnik's social media accounts in Europe - Roskomnadzor

MOSCOW. March 1 (Interfax) - Meta should unblock RT and Sputnik's Facebook and Instagram accounts in Europe, Russia's Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) stated on Tuesday, noting that American IT companies were deliberately restricting access to Russian information so as to present only one side of the events in Ukraine.

"On March 1, Roskomnadzor wrote to Meta Platforms Inc. to demand that the restrictions it imposed in Europe on access to RT and Sputnik's official Facebook and Instagram accounts be lifted immediately and the reasons for them explained," the statement said.

"American IT companies' actions towards Russian media outlets violate the key principles of free dissemination of information and unhindered access thereto.

"Through their actions, the American IT companies are deliberately restricting free access to Russian information for citizens around the world with a view to forming among users a one-sided picture of the special operation conducted by the Russian military in Ukraine."
