Russian ombudsman urges Ukrainian counterpart to prevent torture of captured Russian soldiers

MOSCOW. March 1 (Interfax) - Russia's human rights commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova has called on her Ukrainian counterpart to prevent torture of Russian prisoners of war, Moskalkova's press service said on Tuesday.

"I am appealing to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine's commissioner for human rights, Liudmyla Denisova, to take measures for swift prevention of torture, torment, humiliation and mistreatment of our citizens in captivity," the Russian ombudsman's Telegram channel said.

Moskalkova said she had learnt about cases of "cruel and inhuman treatment of Russian servicemen captured in Ukraine."
