Russia deprived of privilege to host Volleyball Men's World Championship 2022

MOSCOW. March 1 (Interfax) - The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has decided to deprive Russia of the right to host the Men's World Championship 2022 because of the developments in Ukraine.

"The FIVB Men's World Championship 2022 is to be removed from Russia. The new host nation(s) will be announced at a later stage," the federation said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The FIVB Board of Administration has come to the conclusion that it would be impossible to prepare and stage the World Championships in Russia due to the war in Ukraine. It has accordingly decided to remove from Russia the organization of the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship scheduled to be held in August and September 2022," the federation said.

"The Russian Volleyball Federation and the Organizing Committee Volleyball 2022 have been informed accordingly," it said.

The championship was to be held in ten Russian cities from August 26 to September 11. The tournament's format implied two group stages followed by the Final Six in Moscow.
