Russia closes its airspace to Swiss airlines - Rosaviatsia

MOSCOW. March 1 (Interfax) - Russia has closed its airspace to Swiss air carriers, the Russian Federal Agency for Air Transport (Rosaviatsia) said.

"Yesterday, on February 28, 2022, in accordance with the norms of international law, as a response measure to Switzerland's ban on flights of civilian aircraft operated by Russian air carriers and/or registered in Russia, restrictions were imposed on flights of civilian aircraft operated and/or registered in Switzerland," Rosaviatsia said.

On Monday, Rosaviatsia announced the closure of Russian airspace to air carriers of 36 states, including European countries and Canada. This list includes Austria, Albania, the British overseas territory of Anguilla, Belgium, Bulgaria, the British Virgin Islands, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Denmark (including Greenland, the Faroe Islands and territorial waters), Jersey, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Canada, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, France, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Sweden, and Estonia.

This decision mirrors the measures undertaken by these states to close their airspace to Russian air carriers, Rosaviatsia said.
