All Russian clubs, national teams indefinitely suspended from participation in FIFA, UEFA competitions

MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) have decided to suspend Russian national teams and clubs from participation in competitions under their aegis, the UEFA press service said.

"Following the initial decisions adopted by the FIFA Council and the UEFA Executive Committee, which envisaged the adoption of additional measures, FIFA and UEFA have today decided together that all Russian teams, whether national representative teams or club teams, shall be suspended from participation in both FIFA and UEFA competitions until further notice," the statement said.

"These decisions were adopted today by the Bureau of the FIFA Council and the Executive Committee of UEFA, respectively the highest decision-making bodies of both institutions on such urgent matters," it said.

On March 10, Spartak Moscow, which is the only Russian club in the European cups, was scheduled to play Leipzig in the 1/8 round of the Europa League in Germany.

On March 24, Moscow was to host a match between Russia and Poland, the winner of which would also play in Moscow the winner of the game between Sweden and the Czech Republic for the right to play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
