Russian warships 'destroy' enemy detachment during Baltic drill

MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - Russian Navy battleships conducted an electronic missile exercise with sea and coastal targets in the Baltic Sea, the Baltic Fleet said.

"On sea training ranges belonging to the Baltic Fleet, an attack ship group consisting of the small missile ships Odintsovo, Mytishchi and Geizer, and the missile motor boat Zarechny, carried out electronic missile launches with Kalibr and Malakhit systems against targets imitating a mock enemy's group of combat ships and coastal installations," the statement said.

"As a result, all targets were successfully hit. The drills took place in a complex jamming environment which had been artificially created to make the task for the attack ship crews more complicated."

During the maneuvers, the ships practiced various types of electronic jamming, ship-damage control, anti-sabotage defense, inter-ship interactions and communications, and elements of sailing in formation, the fleet said.

The training was "part of practicing planned joint tasks," the statement said.
