Only officers, contract servicemen involved in operation in Ukraine - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - Only officers and contract servicemen are involved in Russia's military operation in Ukraine, Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov said.

"I would like to emphasize that only officers and servicemen serving as privates and sergeants under contracts in the Russian Armed Forces are taking part in the special military operation," he said on Monday.

"All settlements which have come under control of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are continuing their normal lives," he said.

"Vital infrastructure facilities for the population are operating, and transport is working. The majority of city administrations are ensuring public order and supporting peaceful everyday life together, and in agreement with the command of the Russian troops," Konashenkov said.
