Court in St. Petersburg orders 25-day arrest of activist who called for unsanctioned rally

ST. PETERSBURG. Feb 28 (Interfax) - The St. Petersburg Kuibyshevsky District Court has held administratively responsible Bogdan Litvin, an activist who published an announcement of an unsanctioned protest scheduled for February 25, the joint press service of St. Petersburg courts said.

He was placed under 25-day arrest on counts of a repeat breach of public event regulations.

The court established that Litvin called for participation in an unsanctioned event dedicated to the Ukraine situation in a statement posted on the VK social network on February 25.

The activist faced administrative charges for a similar offense in April 2021 and spent seven days under arrest.

Unsanctioned demonstrations took place on Nevsky Avenue in St. Petersburg on February 24, 25, and 26. More than 600 respective motions were filed with courts, at least 80 people were arrested, and at least 250 were fined.
