Roskomnadzor demands Google restore access to YouTube channels of Russian media in Ukraine

MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) has sent a letter to the top management of the United States company Google LLC demanding that all restrictions imposed on Russian-language YouTube channels of Russian media be lifted as soon as possible and that the reasons for their imposition be explained.

"American Internet services, including the YouTube video hosting site, participate in the information confrontation by deliberately restricting Russian media outlets, including those that are official Russian sources of information. Roskomnadzor said in a letter to the YouTube administration that such actions violate the key principles of free information dissemination and unhindered access to it for citizens," Roskomnadzor said.

The telecoms regulator said that the publications in question are RBC, Zvezda and Sputnik.

"Earlier the telecoms regulator received information from the editorial offices of the above publications about the restriction of access to Russian-language channels of Russian media in Ukraine by the administration of the YouTube video hosting site," Roskomnadzor said.
