Medvedev: Suspension of Russia's membership in such 'pointless charity cases' as CoE, PACE 'reason to slam the door'

MOSCOW. Feb 26 (Interfax) - The suspension of Russia's membership in the Council of Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is a reason for the country to withdraw from this organization and an opportunity to reinstate a number of important institutions aimed at preventing especially grave crimes, including death penalty, which is actively used in the United States and China, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said.

"They're now driving us away from everywhere, punishing and scaring us, but we're not afraid again, almost like Leo Tolstoy in the certain situation. The Council of Europe and the PACE suspended Russia's membership just now. It's terribly unfair. However, it is a good reason to slam the door finally and forget about those pointless charity cases for good. We're even joined them out of foolishness back in the day, when we were young," Medvedev wrote on his VKontakte page.

"It is also a good opportunity to reinstate a number of important institutions to prevent especially grave crimes in the country," he said. "Such as death penalty for the most dangerous criminals. By the way, the U.S. and China are actively using it," he said.
