Twitter says stepping up fight against fakes due to tense situation in Ukraine

MOSCOW. Feb 26 (Interfax) - The Twitter social media has stepped up its efforts to detect fakes due to developments in Ukraine and has disabled recommendations for users from Russia and Ukraine to reduce the amount of offensive content.

"Our top priority is to keep people safe on Twitter. We are actively monitoring the risks associated with the conflict in Ukraine, in particular, identifying and suppressing attempts to spread false and misleading information," the company said in a statement in Russian.

The social media is actively monitoring vulnerable profiles of well-known users, including journalists, activists, public officials and agencies, "to mitigate any attempts of targeted attacks or manipulation," it said.
