Russian troops enter Melitopol without any resistance - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Feb 26 (Interfax) - The Russian military has said the country's troops have entered the Ukrainian city of Melitopol without any resistance.

"On the evening of February 25, after a naval assault force landed near the populated locality of Azovske (Ukraine), Russian units performed a march and, encountering no resistance, entered Melitopol," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Melitopol residents greeted the Russian servicemen as they moved around the city, the ministry said.

"Some senior citizens came out to the streets with red flags," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
