Russian troops control airport near Kyiv - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Feb 25 (Interfax) - The Russian troops said they have taken control of an airport in a Kyiv suburb, saying Ukraine lost more than 200 people in that operation.

"More than 200 nationalists from the special units of Ukraine were destroyed when the airport was taken over. There are no casualties in the Russian Armed Forces," Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.

The Russian Armed Forces successfully landed an assault force in the area of the Hostomel airport in a Kyiv suburb on February 24, he said.

"The operation involved more than 200 Russian helicopters. The success of the landing force was ensured by suppressing all air defense systems in the landing area, full isolation of the action area from the air, and active radio electronic warfare," he said.
