Rights activist Litvinovich fined 30,000 rubles for organizing unauthorized event in Moscow

MOSCOW. Feb 25 (Interfax) - Moscow's Khamovnichesky District Court has given human rights activist Marina Litvinovich an administrative fine in the amount of 30,000 rubles for organizing an unauthorized event in Moscow on Thursday.

Attorney Fyodor Sirosh told Interfax Moscow's Khamovnichesky District Court had found Litvinovich guilty of violating Part 2 of Article 20.2 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offences (organization of unauthorized event) and had fined her 30,000 rubles.

An appeal is expected to be filed.

According to earlier reports, Litvinovich was detained in Moscow while leaving her residence and was taken to a police station, where a protocol of an administrative violation was made against her.

The press service for the Russian Interior Ministry's Main Directorate for Moscow said on Thursday 600 people had been detained at an unauthorized event in central Moscow.
