Russian retaliatory sanctions to target weak points, but not mirror Western actions - Matviyenko

DUSHANBE. Feb 25 (Interfax) - Russia has prepared retaliatory sanctions but they will not mirror the Western actions, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said.

"Speaking of retaliatory sanctions, clearly, they have been prepared but they will not mirror the sanctions against Russia. We are well aware of weak points of the West and have prepared a whole package, a whole series of possible restrictions to be applied to the states that have declared sanctions on Russia. The West has many sensitive points too," Matviyenko told reporters during a visit to Tajikistan on Friday.

"We will not harm ourselves by any of our actions," she said.

The Russian government envisaged "all contingency mechanisms in advance and mulled every threat posed by the sanctions," Matviyenko said.

Social guarantees to the Russian population will be honored despite the sanctions, she said.
