Putin tells Indian PM reasons for decision to start special military operation in Ukraine - Kremlin

MOSCOW. Feb 24 (Interfax) - The Kremlin press service on Thursday reported a phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"While discussing the Ukraine situation, Vladimir Putin stated principal evaluations of the aggressive actions by Kyiv against the civilian population of Donbas and the years long destructive policies aimed at destroying the Minsk Agreements. Under these circumstances, and also due to the military exploration by the U.S. and its allies of the territory of Ukraine, which is unacceptable to Russia, a decision was made to start special military operation," the report said.

The Indian prime minister thanked for the comments and asked for assistance in ensuring the safety of the Indian citizens who are now in Ukraine. The Russian president said the necessary instructions will be given.
