DPR, LPR groups of troops conducting 'counteroffensive' on Ukrainian army units with fire support from Russian Armed Forces - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Feb 24 (Interfax) - Groups of troops of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics continue a counteroffensive on units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with fire support from the Russian army, Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov said on Thursday.

"Mainly armed nationalist units are now putting up resistance in the military action area. Ukrainian troops are trying to avoid military clashes and agree on corridors to come out of the operation area without weapons," Konashenkov said.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu "has issued special orders to all unit commanders to treat Ukrainian troops with respect," he said.

The order states that "bearing in mind that the troops of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, unlike nationalists, swore their allegiance to the people of Ukraine and fulfilled orders, treat them with respect. Work on creating safe corridors for safe exit by those Ukrainian troops who lay down their weapons from the areas of the operation to their families," Konashenkov said.
