ICRC urges conflicting sides in Ukraine to honor int'l humanitarian law

GENEVA. Feb 24 (Interfax) - International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) President Peter Maurer has urged the sides in the conflict in Ukraine to comply with international law and to protect the civilian population.

"Gravely concerned for the safety of communities Ukraine. Our message to the parties to the conflict is clear: uphold IHL, protect civilians and essential services," Maurer said on Twitter.

"ICRC teams are responding to urgent humanitarian needs and they must be able to continue their life-saving work," he said.
