Russian Railways considering possibility of participating in constructing railway in Brazilian state of Parana

MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Russian Railways (RZD) remains interested in railway projects in Brazil, Russian Deputy Economic Development Minister Vladimir Ilyichev said on Tuesday at a forum of Russian and Brazilian business councils.

"Russian Railways is considering the possibility of participating in a railway construction project in the state of Parana, as well as in other industry projects in Brazil," Ilyichev said at the forum.

As previously reported, RZD International LLC, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, planned in 2015 to participate in a railway concession project in Brazil worth around $7 billion, as estimated at the time. Participating in the project concerned operating an 800-km section and building a new railway line. In addition, negotiations were underway then on supplying Russian railway cars and locomotives to Brazil.
