Russia-West tensions persist - Peskov

MOSCOW. Feb 7 (Interfax) - The West has been ignoring the topic of security guarantees for Russia and has preferred to focus on the alleged threat of a Russian invasion of Ukraine in recent days, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Journalists asked Peskov at a press briefing on Monday whether it could be said that tensions between Russia and the West had somewhat eased in the recent period.

"First of all, I should say that nothing new has happened from the angle of security guarantees for Russia in recent days. Our Western interlocutors prefer not to mention this topic," he said.

"Instead, they prefer a rather agitated discussion of what they call Russia's future invasion of Ukraine," Peskov said.

"We can hardly speak of any lull here. We have been hearing daily statements on the topic from the United States and the European capitals," he said.

"Therefore, the atmosphere remains quite tense," Peskov said.
