Russia expresses readiness to boost electricity exports to Mongolia - meeting minutes

MOSCOW. Feb 2 (Interfax) - The Russian side has expressed its readiness, if necessary, to increase the volume of electric power supplied from Russia to Mongolia, according to the minutes of a meeting of the Russian-Mongolian intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation, seen by Interfax.

According to the minutes, the Mongolian side expressed gratitude for the prompt resolution regarding the matter of increasing the maximum allowable capacity of electric power supplied from Russia's unified energy system (UES) to the central energy system of Mongolia.

The parties were also in favor of develop emergency controls along the Russia-Mongolia interconnection in order to increase the maximum allowable active power flow of the Selenduma-Darkhan controlled section in the autumn-winter period of 2021-2022, the minutes read.

PJSC Inter RAO is Russia's sole electricity export-import operator.

Between 2018 and 2020, electricity exports to Mongolia were in the range of 300-400 million kWh, Inter RAO said. In 9M 2021, the company increased its electricity supply to Mongolia by 68% compared to the same period in 2020, to 362 million kWh.
