Russia sees 9,090 Covid-19 hospitalizations, 124,070 new cases in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Jan 31 (Interfax) - Russia has seen 9,090 Covid-19 hospitalizations, down 8% from the previous day, 124,070 new cases and 621 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Monday.

"As of January 31, 2022, Russia recorded 9,090 Covid-19 hospitalizations, or 8% less than the day before. The hospitalization rate has reduced in 51 regions, grew in 23 Russian constituent territories, and remained unchanged in two," the headquarters said.

There were 124,070 new infections, or 2,842 more than in the previous day, and 621 deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

The Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus has been detected in 82 regions, or 27 regions more than on January 20. The number of regions where the new variant had been detected did not change over the past day.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said on January 26 that Omicron might become a new prevailing strain in Russia. As of January 26, the outgoing Delta variant accounted for 47.9% of all cases, while Omicron and other strains made up 52.1%.

"There was a 4.1% growth in recoveries since January 30 to 30,130 in the past 24 hours," the headquarters said.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Monday that Russia has performed more than 256.1 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 866,000 over the past day. As many as 3,045,683 people remain under medical observation.
