No one looking for war, which would be horrid, yet lots of people make money, speculate on this subject - Medvedev

GORKI. Jan 27 (Interfax) - Russia does not want a war with the West, the very idea of having a conflict is horrid, yet many people abroad are trying to make money on the subject, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said.

"In no case would one want a war, no one is looking for war, and everything must be done to prevent a war from happening, especially a conflict between Russia and, say, the North Atlantic Alliance," Medvedev said in an interview with Interfax and other Russian media outlets.

Interfax asked Medvedev to assess the possibility of a real war between Russia and the West. "Events of the kind would be horrid, and there is nothing more to say. It is a different thing that lots of people are making money and speculating on the subject; some are doing this thoughtlessly, while others are pursuing a certain political course," Medvedev said.

"Obviously, the main and only opportunity is to agree on security guarantees, to use political and diplomatic instruments, and to hold talks," he said.

"The principle of indivisible security, which has been declared by every fundamental European and international document and says that security of one country cannot be provided at the expense of another, should be applied in our relations," Medvedev said.
