Russia sees record 49,513 new cases of Covid-19 in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 49,513 new cases of Covid-19, which is over 10,000 more than the day before, and 692 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarter said in a statement on Friday.

"As of January 21, Russia has recorded 49,513 new cases of Covid-19, 9,136 hospitalizations, 24,719 recoveries, and 692 deaths," the headquarters said.

The Delta variant of the novel coronavirus continues to prevail in Russia. It is registered in 52.3% of all new cases. Meanwhile, Omicron and other non-prevailing variants account for 47.7% of infections.

Omicron cases have been reported from 57 Russian constituent territories.

The number of hospitalized patients decreased by 0.34% to 9,136 over the past day. The rate of hospitalizations grew in 40 regions.
