Russia registers 38,850 new Covid-19 cases, 684 deaths, 24,478 recoveries in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Jan 20 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 38,850 new cases of Covid-19, or almost 5,000 more than the day before, and 684 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said on Thursday.

"Over the past day, 24,478 have recovered, which is 6.8% more than on January 19, 2022. There were 38,850 new cases, as well as 684 deaths in the past 24 hours," the headquarters said.

The Delta variant of the novel coronavirus continues to prevail in Russia. Delta accounts for 56.2% of all cases, while Omicron and other non-prevailing strains account for 43.8% of infections. The new variant of the novel coronavirus has been reported in 55 regions of Russia.

According to the headquarters, 9,167 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized across Russia in the reporting period, which is 3.8% less than the day before. Meanwhile, 27 regions reported an increase in hospitalizations.
