Russia registers 30,726 new cases of Covid-19 in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 30,726 new cases of Covid-19, or nearly 1,500 cases more than on January 16, and 670 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Monday.

"Over the past day, 30,726 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 5,018 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (16.3%)," the headquarters said.

All big cities of Russia have been reporting a growth in coronavirus infections. According to the headquarters, Moscow has seen 7,529 new cases of Covid-19, or the largest number in 2021. Meanwhile, St. Petersburg has reported its all-time high of 4,132 infections, while the Moscow region saw 3,388 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

The number of deaths from Covid-19 has been declining in Russia since the end of December. Over the past day, 670 patients died from Covid-19 across the country, which is the smallest number since July 5. There were 67 deaths in Moscow, 65 in St. Petersburg, and 44 in the Moscow region, the headquarters said.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 10,834,260 cases of Covid-19, including 321,990 deaths and 9,878,371 recoveries, including 19,756 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 1,805 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Monday that Russia has performed more than 246.8 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 404,000 over the past day. As many as 939,507 people remain under medical observation.
