Covid-19 morbidity spikes to 23,820 in Russia as Omicron variant spreads - Deputy PM Golikova

MOSCOW. Jan 14 (Interfax) - Russia registered 23,820 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday as the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus continued to spread, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova told reporters on Friday.

Golikova said she briefed Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this week on the global situation with Omicron, "its high transmissibility and the alarming trends that begin to manifest themselves in the Russian territory."

"The number of new cases has been larger than 20,000 in the recent days, and we have seen 23,820 infections today," Golikova said.
