Russia registers 21,922 new cases of Covid-19, 935 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Dec 28 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 21,922 new cases of Covid-19 and 935 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Over the past day, 21,922 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,496 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (6.8%)," the headquarters said.

The Covid-19 morbidity curve started declining in Russia at the end of November after hitting all-time highs of over 40,000 daily infections. According to the report released on Tuesday, Russia saw 1,288 fewer new cases of Covid-19 than it did on Monday (23,210). The number correlates to the one of late September.

St. Petersburg reported the largest number of infections, 1,802, followed by Moscow (1,705) and the Moscow region (1,574).

Over the past day, 935 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia, mostly, in Moscow (73). St. Petersburg (61), and the Moscow region (41).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 10,437,152 cases of Covid-19, including 306 090 deaths and 9.337,447 recoveries, including 43,961 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 3,111 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Tuesday that Russia has performed more than 239 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 306,000 over the past day. As many as 1.372,465 people remain under medical observation.
