Russia registers 25,667 new cases of Covid-19, 1,002 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Dec 23 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 25,667 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,002 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.

"Over the past day, 25,667 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,971 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (7.7%)," the headquarters said.

According to the headquarters, there were 3,062 new infections in Moscow, 2,198 in St. Petersburg, and 959 in the Moscow region.

In the past 24 hours, 1,002 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia, mostly, in Moscow (77), St. Petersburg (55), and the Moscow region (53).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 10,318,650 cases of Covid-19, including 301,271 deaths and 9,139,166 recoveries, including 41,645 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 3,292 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Thursday that Russia has performed more than 236.8 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 532,000 over the past day. As many as 1,476,181 people remain under medical observation.
