Russia registers 25,264 new cases of Covid-19, 1,020 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Dec 22 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 25,264 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,020 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 25,264 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,710 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (6.8%)," the headquarters said.

St. Petersburg has been the leader in terms of new infections for two consecutive days: the city reported 2,166 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, as against 1,904 new cases in Moscow and 1,351 in the Moscow region. On the whole, the coronavirus morbidity curve has been on decline in Russia.

In the past 24 hours, 1,020 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia, mostly, in Moscow (81), St. Petersburg (60), and the Moscow region (54).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 10,292,983 cases of Covid-19, including 300,269 deaths and 9,097,521 recoveries, including 42,322 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 3,119 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Wednesday that Russia has performed more than 236.3 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 415,000 over the past day. As many as 1,494,115 people remain under medical observation.
