Russia registers 27,743 new cases of Covid-19, 1,080 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Dec 17 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 27,743 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,080 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Friday.

"Over the past day, 27,743 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,106 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (7.6%)," the headquarters said.

There were 2,755 new cases of Covid-19 in Moscow, 1,984 in St. Petersburg and 1,452 in the Moscow region.

In the past 24 hours, 1,080 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia, mostly, in Moscow (83), St. Petersburg (63) and the Moscow region (60).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 10,159,389 cases of Covid-19, including 295,104 deaths and 8,914,225 recoveries, including 37,437 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 3,509 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Friday that Russia has performed more than 234 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 644,000 over the past day. As many as 1,585,534 people remain under medical observation.
