Pashinyan invites Baku to sign peace treaty

YEREVAN. Nov 17 (Interfax) - Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has invited Azerbaijan to sign a peace treaty.

"We have also invited and are inviting Azerbaijan to sign a peace treaty," Pashinyan said at the Armenian parliament on Wednesday, when asked by a lawmaker about his attitude to Baku's proposal on signing a peace treaty.

The negotiating process within the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group is aimed precisely at signing a peace treaty, he said.

"It is strange that Azerbaijan keeps proposing that Armenia sign a peace treaty and saying that there has been no response from Armenia. We have spoken about this dozens of times. This is not Azerbaijan's initiative. When we talk about the need to fully reinstate the negotiations, our goal is to sign a peace treaty. This should be preceded by work on agreeing upon the text of a peace treaty. This is substantial work, and we haven't refused to do this work. We also see this issue as our agenda," Pashinyan said.
